Professional editing services

At some point in the writing process, it is worth getting your ms corrected by a professional service.  The cost is certainly well worth the hassle of having to revise your article several times before it can be accepted.  Please remember that a ms that does not come up to the highest writing standards will not be allowed through to production.

Do not be ashamed of using them, even if you are a native speaker.  If you are a non-native, it will be a major boost to your ms.  You will save time and hassle; the money is well spent.  It could also make the cucial difference between having your ms accepted and rejected, and even getting your final ms accepted.  Cases have arisen where an author has gone through the long review process, revised (maybe several times), done a final version, and then had the final version refused because the quality of writing was not up to scratch.  The author then hires a profesional editor, and the ms breezes through.

Probably the best moment to ask for professional editing work is before you submit v1 - version 1.  Submitting a clear, clean ms to reviewers will allow them to give a higher evaluation and thus greater chance of being accepted.  When (and if) you get to submitting your final ms, you could then ask for a quick, light read.  This option is probably best if you are confident that your v1 will not need much revision.  Thisn option is probably also best for non-native speakers who till have difficulty writing smooth, easy to read text.

Alternatively, you can wait until before you submit your final ms.  This means that your professional editor will be working on the last version.  This option is probably best when you antivcipate having to make many changes to your ms, between v1 anf final version.  If you are a native speaker, and if you writing is good, then this option is best.  When you get to preparing the final version, the editor may recommend that you get a professional editor.

When you send your ms (v1 or final), indicate in the cover sheet: (a) if you use a professional editing service, (b) which one (name, URL, email), and (c) how satisfactory you found them to be.  You do not have to use the ones suggested below.  Using an editing service does not guaranbtee that your ms will be accepted.  However, it increases your chances.

It is always a good idea to ask your editing service to consult this author guide.  Also ask them to look at the check list.  This will allow them to edit your article according to specific S&G requirements.

Be aware that each journal has its own style.  S&G is essentielly APA, but does have a few specific requirements, hence this author guide.
