In the following exercises you will have to work three times on the same text.

You must do these exercises in the order they are presented to you. They get more and more difficult. The aim of this set of gap-filling activities is to help you build up writing techniques by memorizing simple vocabulary as well as more elaborate parts of sentences.

Click here to read the whole text first. You should not take notes.

Part One.

Each gap contains ONE very simple word (noun, preposition, verb, article, etc...).

Gap filling - Part 1

Part Two.

We have now removed words that may seem slightly more complex. Once again each gap contains only ONE word . To help you find the word, you are given the first letter(s) BEFORE the gap. You must type the WHOLE word in the gap without forgetting the first letters that are given before the gap.

Gap filling - Part 2

Part Three.

Each gap now contains more than one word. Even if you understand certain phrases or idioms you might not always remember to use them when you need to write in English. This particular type of excercise should help you.

Please fill in the gaps using the phrases given before the text.

Gap filling - Part 3

Now you may click here to read the whole text again. It may prove useful to note down the vocabulary you did not know.
