In English adjectives precede the noun. But when there is two or more adjectives that precede the noun, it is essential to know where to put them.

The usual order is:

  • Opinion or judgment -- pretty, interesting
  • Size -- small, big
  • Age -- young, old
  • Shape -- round, square
  • Colour -- red, black
  • Nationality -- French, American
  • Material -- wooden, plastic
  • Make -- Ford, Sony
  • Purpose or Qualifier -- reading lamp

Some basic rules

    • Two adjectives of the same kind may be joined by :  "and"
